This project is located in north London, it required breathing new life into a historic property dating to 1903. The brief required this historic building to be replanned into a contemporary family home with an addition that fronts the street and extends into the deep rear yard with an interior swimming pool and green roof.
The new two story addition was scaled to align with the neighboring properties and visual datums of the historic facade, despite three stories being allowed. A vertical glass element separates the two forms and allowed for simple construction techniques to be used to integrate old with new.
The interior features a double height kitchen and dining area, clean lines and strong visual connections to the rear yard and living green roof. A 10m long skylight brings soft natural light into the swimming pool, which is anchored by a sculptural spiral staircase.
This project was completed in partnership with Base Associates of London.
